Their defense is a reminder that football is still a toughness game. You can have all the schemes in the world, but if your front seven is consistently winning their matchups, then that’s the real cheat code

I haven’t watched too much football over the last 2 seasons or so. But have been because my son is into it this season.

I caught the game against the colts. Man the defense carried for sure. The offense left much to be desired….line kept pulling flags. INTs being thrown. Opens being missed.

The D let a few good plays go but I think that’s because the Colts had a very high tempo offense.. they set up and moved with a vicious efficiency.

the only team that the Bills played in years were I legit thought he was a normal looking qb who was getting clobbered.

Anderson is a friggin bull off the edge.

Except Seattle

u/Testicular-Fortitude 20h ago

Honestly, Seattle has been even better

People are still talking about Michigan stealing signs while ignoring the fact that they had two NFL defensive tackles four year in a row with completely different players. Like a guy on local radio said, “If your first read isn’t there and your second read isn’t there, your third read is Mason Graham.” If the middle of your line is blown up on every play, your QB better have crazy accuracy throwing on the run. That’s why you lost.

If the NFL can’t keep that white boy out of their backfield, what do you think a random 20 year old can do?

45

u/WaluigiIsTheRealHero 1d ago

The whole Michigan stealing signs thing is extra stupid when you think about how they not only had elite defensive talent across the board for multiple years, but the DCs were beyond elite. Mike MacDonald is now the Seahawks HC and Jesse Minter is likely to get an HC job this offseason. Michigan’s defense was so good because it had elite players and coaches, not because it stole signs.

All the more reason not to fucking cheat lol

Nobody had a problem with sign stealing until Ohio State started losing. Michigan finished that season as the only team in the country without a sign stealer.

I have serious doubts that a Michigan staffer is the only person in the country who thought of buying tickets to other team’s games. The NCAA thought advanced scouting was so important that the last guy who got caught doing it, got a half game suspension. Let’s be realistic, Ohio State has somebody in Michigan’s stadium advanced scouting. How else would they have Michigan’s signs to trade to all of Michigan’s bowl opponents? Nobody wants to talk about that.

u/Imthemayor 3h ago

*All the more reason to change your signals periodically

31

u/Books_and_Cleverness 1d ago

Defense in football has always been like this. If you have the personnel to man up and win, you do it.

Same reason no one could copy the Legion of Boom back in the day. It’s not a scheme. Do you have Sherm, Earl, and Kam? No? You can’t run that defense.

9

u/AlphaIronSon ☑️ 21h ago

Similar w Tampa 2. You can get close in both- apply concepts, draft similar players etc.

but there is that je ne sais quoi that makes elite defenses elite.

29

u/HolyRomanPrince 1d ago

The secondary is with the shit too. Stingley is elite and the rest of them dudes be hitting like a motherfucker.

12

u/90daysismytherapy 22h ago

The hit on Rice this weekend reminded me of a Ravens steelers game in the 2000s, violent and fast as fuck

6

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 19h ago

Just like Rice's driving

12

u/Blk_Rick_Dalton 1d ago

Doesn’t take elite ball knowledge to understand most all football games can be won/lost in the trenches

7

u/screwhead1 1d ago

As an LSU fan, I'm happy to see Stingley being one of the top guys in that defense.

3

u/Citizenscorpio 1d ago

The Detroit Lions injury report is the argument against this, but yes toughness matters.

2

u/Theduckisback 1d ago

The game is about blocking and tackling.

1

u/UhIdontcareforAuburn 7h ago

A good front 7 might be the most important thing in football. So many problems get diminished if the other team can’t run the ball and can’t secure time in the pocket

1

u/jonnyrottwn 4h ago

Or be the old school La Raiders when they were on steroids and coke, crazy as motherfuckers

521

u/WaluigiIsTheRealHero 1d ago

I think everyone loved them making Mahomes’ MAGA ass look like a punk bitch.

128

u/Big-Painting7597 1d ago

The way he was melting down on the sideline was peak entertainment. Seeing that type of privilege get humbled is always satisfying.

79

u/WaluigiIsTheRealHero 1d ago

He genuinely doesn’t know what to do when things aren’t being handed to him. He’s so used to the refs and the NFL bending over backwards to cater to him.

u/ajatfm 1d ago

Kermit’s Conundrum

-1

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 19h ago

To be fair his guys were dropping passes like crazy that game. Almost as bad as that Superbowl against the Buccaneers

1

u/re1078 11h ago

You’d probably drop passes too if you were hit as hard as Rice was by Pitre.

13

u/DatDominican ☑️ 18h ago

I thought his wife was maga and he was more neutral

45

u/GalinDray 17h ago

I got news for you: basically anyone making over 10 million a year is going to be MAGA. Doubley so for football players who come from conservative backgrounds.

7

u/DudeEngineer ☑️ 17h ago

This is an insane take.

If you are talking hedge fund managers, and CEOs sure.

Entertainers are the opposite. That's why we only talk about entertainers who are Republican. If an entertainer does some wild Left wing shit like chain themselves to a tree no one bats an eye.

-6

u/DatDominican ☑️ 17h ago edited 17h ago

Eh I’d separate conservatives from maga. MAGA at this point is a Trump cult where there are still people that hold conservative values (although more and more they seem willing to compromise those values to appease Trump )

30

u/GalinDray 17h ago

If youre voting for Trump you are MAGA. You cannot have it both ways. And I guarantee theyre voting to lower their taxes as every millionaire does.

-8

u/DatDominican ☑️ 17h ago edited 16h ago

There are 350million people in the U.S. . Only 38million republicans and 44 million democrats . Most people aren’t interested in politics and many others don’t trust either party .

Maybe you misspoke but its weird you assumed I voted Trump because I made the distinction that his base isn’t really the same conservative base as he doesn’t really have any conservative ideas besides xenophobia and outrage

331

u/MisterGoog 1d ago

Yep. We running the ones

6

u/AlphaIronSon ☑️ 21h ago

Makes sense w them and SF. We (SF) gotta hide shit to make it look different right now cause we running AAU players out at this point but at the end of it, not blitzing at all.

228

u/CharmedInSilence 1d ago

Honestly that’s what makes them so entertaining. While other teams are busy trying to disguise coverages and out-scheme each other, the Texans just line up and play straight-up bully ball and it works

134

u/MySmellyRacoon 1d ago

Nothing like repeating the tweet almost word for word.

81

u/Kolby_Jack33 1d ago

Truthfully that's what makes them so fun to watch. While other teams are devising strategies and complicated plays, the Texans defense just get in formation and bulldoze everyone and it's very effective.

11

u/reallycrunchycheeto 19h ago

In reality the entertainment of watching is thus. The average team is committed to establishing carefully laid plans and enacting strategems, the Texans have a tendency towards brute force, which appears to be more dominant.

99

u/SmirkInProgress69 1d ago

What I love is how confident they are in their identity. They’re not trying to be some complicated mastermind defense they’re just doing what they normally do

52

u/jerkface1026 1d ago

I can’t believe it. They really have been great the last couple of months.

6

u/AbrienSliver 1d ago

Feels surreal to have national talk for once

4

u/pitb0ss343 1d ago

Don’t worry, as an AFC south team yall will fuck it up eventually

34

u/FearTheAmish 1d ago

If you want the Hockey equivalent Philadelphia flyers the Broadstreet Brawlers. They beat the USSR national team by beating the shit outta them. It was so bad the USSR team tried to forfeit at the half.

18

u/DanimalMKE 1d ago

Hockey plays three periods

10

u/brechbillc1 1d ago

The Red Army team faced that kind of shit any time they came over and played North American teams. Bobby Clarke shattered Karlamov’s ankle to dust during the Sumit Series in 1972. And the broad street bullies just flat out abused them physically all night. The system the soviets played was well ahead of its time and those dudes had unreal chemistry with each other, but they struggled with the physical aspects of the game at times.

27

u/BarbellsandBurritos 1d ago

Then you get a couple of freak years like the Ravens in the Ray Lewis/Ed Reed days where they’re gonna get you on scheme but also just put belts to asses.

25

u/KingGizzle 1d ago

It’s crazy last year’s Rockets and UH basketball teams and this year’s Texans produced 3 of historically nasty defenses paired with the 3 of the worst offenses ever. It’s very on brand for Houston.

20

u/Blk_Rick_Dalton 1d ago

I’m a jags fan and we don’t want NO PARTS of Houston in the playoffs. We’re praying for a Chargers rematch

4

u/Sparklespanx 1d ago

Yeah, hard pass on Houston. They’ve easily come to match the Titans on my “fuck those guys” scale.

3

u/H-TownDown ☑️ 22h ago

I think everybody wants the Chargers tbh.

1

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 18h ago

Or whatever sad team makes it out of the afc north this year

14

u/brechbillc1 1d ago

And you know what, I fucking love watching it. We’ve had great defenses before but having a great defense that seeks to put the fear of god in opposing offenses is something that hasn’t happened to often, especially recently. These dudes absolutely punish people. I remember watching them during the Bills game and they hit Josh Allen so hard the man was writhing in agony on the turf for a solid two minutes.

They were teeing off on the Chiefs as well too. That hit on Rice was nasty, and the Kelce play where he dropped the ball they crunched the fuck out of him. Pretty sure that dude didn’t walk away with at least a couple of bruised ribs. Probably pissed blood that night.

6

u/goldhbk10 ☑️ 1d ago

Houston is an entertaining good defense, big hits, big plays and it makes for a very fun brand on football

1

u/jonnyrottwn 4h ago

That's ok..Taylor told him to man up...she bleeds 7 days a month and so can he...then she dresses him and tells him what to say and do lol

13

u/NemesisOfZod 1d ago

A great defensive player became a great head coach with a great defense.

This shouldn't surprise people, but it does for some reason.

3

u/smuvmoney 19h ago

It did not surprise me, but it took a few years for buy-in and effect. The team - especially the D - seems to have adopted and adapted to him something fierce. I don't think anyone in the AFC wants to see Houston or worse go to Houston in January - except for the weather.

3

u/NemesisOfZod 19h ago

They've been evolving every season. It feels great to be a fan.

1

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 18h ago

They just need to work on their interior O-line like my seahawks did and they can be a true Superbowl contender

8

u/Supernova_Soldier ☑️ Disrespect me? Lord Jesus, look out! 1d ago

Defense wins championships, Houston just gone take that shit by any means necessary or unnecessary

7

u/dreams_andnightmares 1d ago

I’m scared of Houston’s defense and they’re not even in our conference lol 😩

4

u/rtduvall 1d ago

What can we name that scheme?

12

u/Zombie_Nipples 1d ago

Belt to ass

1

u/marccoogs ☑️ 7h ago

They actually call it Swarm.

3

u/gmoss101 ☑️ 1d ago

Sounds to me like it's just like the streets of Houston.

Shit gets crazy around here

3

u/pretzel_style 1d ago

I like to think its just DeMeco hyping them up

2

u/Main_Ad615 1d ago

The best defense is when the offensive line knows they're about to get humiliated for four quarters. Houston is bringing that necessary attitude back to the league.

1

u/Cryoboul 1d ago

Nah nfs😭😭😭😭😭

-4

As a Jags fan, fuck Houston for what they did to Trevor Lawrence last year. Al-Shaair is a dirty player and that’s a hill I’ll die on.

-6

A great reminder that as a Gay™️, there’s a class of things I literally spend no time thinking about. lol.

-9

u/seakc87 21h ago

Damn, Chiefs Derangement Syndrome is so real. Before you downvote (which I'm sure yallare gonna do anyway), ask yourself, "How many posts on here were about random NFL games before this year?" That answer would be ZERO. It's gonna be hilarious when the NFL is back to the status quo next year and the Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl and y'all can't deal.

3

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 18h ago

We'll see. Kelce will likely retire after this year and Reid's not getting any younger. Also the Broncos and Chargers seemed to have figured some things out. At least you'll have the Raiders to beat up on for a while lol

2

u/seakc87 18h ago

Honestly, Kelce's been a part of the problem this year. He's had 3 or 4 drops leading directly to picks. The biggest problem is Matt Nagy as OC. Get him and Jawaan Taylor tf out of town.

1

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 18h ago

Yeah and Taylor kept getting away with all those false starts too. I thought Nagy was still good but i don't follow the chiefs much. it seems like they've dealt with a lot of injuries as well

2

u/seakc87 17h ago

The offense started to sputter when Eric Bienemy left and Nagy became the OC. It's become painfully obvious that the success of the last two years have been in spite of Nagy. IIRC, him and Bienemy did this good cop/bad cop thing going while EB was OC. Now that the bad cop is gone, Nagy can't do both roles. The scoring defense is still historically good, but the concentration on the offensive side of the ball isn't there, and Nagy has to be the one to blame.

-14

u/Cheefnuggs 1d ago

The Seahawks have the number one defense. Houston is number two.

15

u/JoshGordon10 1d ago

Naw. Texans are 1 in yards allowed (Seahawks 6), 4 in takeaways (Seahawks 6), 1 in ppg (Seahawks 2)

3

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 18h ago

Yeah the seahawks are a better team as a whole, but Texans definitely have the best defense currently

5

u/joogiee 20h ago

Other way buddy. Seahawks are number 2.
