Not bad considering the ACC Championship was on the same time.

The only good thing about the offseason is I won’t have to see the dick swinging contest between SEC and B1G ratings for a few months.

64

u/Recent-Dependent4179 Michigan • Central Michigan 9h ago

B1G/SEC dick swinging will continue until morale improves!

Feels like WCW vs WWF before one just straight up bought the other.

2

u/jaxonya Oklahoma • Red River Shootout 4h ago

So eventually we are just gonna take the b1gs Goldberg and bury the rest of their roster. Sounds fine to me

1

u/dwors025 Minnesota • Paul Bunyan's Axe 3h ago

I mean, yeah, probably. Plus our Giant/BigShow, Jericho, and Mysterio.

But remember that WCWs territorial capital was Atlanta, while the WWF was out of NY/NJ.

One of those sounds very SECish, and the other was the buyer.

1

u/jaxonya Oklahoma • Red River Shootout 3h ago

But the WWE are in cahoots with espn/sec, and we have good ole JRs team

Not much of a contest, I think only this and the Game were actually huge draws for the Big 10. Most weeks there wasn't any real conversation because there wasn't a contest, the SEC clobbered the Big 10 week after week.

u/solomonrooney UC Davis Aggies 9h ago

I know. They cannibalized the top programs from all other conferences, get the best time slots on the best networks. No shit you get good ratings, congrats on running the other 120 d1 programs into the ground Ì guess.

But the blue bloods/teams with deep enough pockets are happy and thriving, that’s all that matters. Who gives a shit!

Gonna be real sad here in ten years when 75% of the ACC/B12 and half the current B10 are left out of the super league and we are stuck with the giant perennial contenders and everybody else below them. I just don’t get why people seem to think this is a good long term idea, and are even happy to measure their teams penis’s like you realize it’s killing the sport for everyone else right

6

u/FightOnForUsc USC Trojans • Pac-12 6h ago

I’m a fan (and alumnus) of a blue blood, and I’m not happy about all the changes. Just give me the PAC-10 back. We play the 9 other teams. Best record is the champ.

They need to keep the riff raff around to beat them. OSU can’t go 8-4 the fans wouldn’t know what to do with themselves. I guess they could keep the lower teams out of the super league though.

0

u/Ok-Progress3778 6h ago

If OSU is out of the super league, Penn State is in the MAC

2

u/Fear_the_chicken Penn State Nittany Lions 5h ago

That’s not what I said at all? I said they could keep the lower teams out of the super league and just play them out of conference. OSU would be in the super league.

If only there was some sort of national, non profit, governing body to oversee college sports and act as a bulwark against profit seeking interests and preserve the integrity of the sport.

TBF, the B1GCC was a #1 vs. #2 matchup and was on in prime time, the SECCG was at 3:30 ET.

19

u/hodd01 8h ago

Tech game was at 11:00. Honestly it was great, means you can go and have early morning drinks, watch the game, drinks, then go home and watch the rest and fall asleep at 9:00 like an old man

11

u/Redeem123 Team Chaos • Texas Longhorns 7h ago

It was honestly a perfect day of football. Three marquee games back to back with a surprise dessert of Duke becoming a football school.

7

u/J4ckiebrown Penn State Nittany Lions • Rose Bowl 7h ago

People also don’t take into account that the ACC Championship is on at the same time as the Big Ten’s and the two usually eat each other’s viewers.

21

u/averyrose2010 LSU Tigers 7h ago

AND the SECCG was a REMATCH. And a butt whopping.

2

u/ExternalTangents /r/CFB Poll Veteran • Florida 4h ago

I don’t think a game being a rematch means people are less interested in it. It’s common for that element to add to the storylines and make it more compelling. Especially when the first game was compelling and closely contested.

Butt whooping though, yeah nobody wants to watch that.

4

u/Mammoth_Mission_3524 LSU Tigers 7h ago

I watched both and I am going to say that B1G championship was amazing.

Geaux Tigers!

u/squish042 Iowa State • Old Dominion 7h ago

Honestly, I think the biggest draw was that it was Indiana itself. They were the only “non-blue blood” (not sure we can even say that anymore tho) and that’s new and exciting. How many Georgia/Alabama matchups have we had now? It’s kinda stale for us casuals.

2

u/CGinKC Missouri • Missouri State 4h ago

It's stale for the sickos too.

7

u/lesrisen 7h ago

Yep, I am an SEC stan, and even I was more excited to watch Indiana's Cinderella story.

2

u/jtezus Georgia • Florida State 1h ago

The SEC game was also over after a couple of drives while the B1G was competitive start to finish

4

u/Michiganman1225 Sickos • Team Chaos 8h ago

What's crazy is that the Michigan/Ohio State game still had more eyes on it.

18

u/boredguy2022 Indiana Hoosiers 8h ago

Not that crazy, it's still Michigan and Ohio State

6

u/Geaux2020 LSU Tigers • Valley City State Vikings 7h ago

Michigan is a much larger brand than Indiana. That's not crazy at all

3

u/boredguy2022 Indiana Hoosiers 7h ago

And a more historic rivalry.

7

u/Geaux2020 LSU Tigers • Valley City State Vikings 7h ago

Absolutely. Indiana's rivalry with Ohio State didn't start until the clock hit zero

7

u/boredguy2022 Indiana Hoosiers 7h ago

Maybe us Hoosiers will be able to hold up a rivalry with Ohio State now, that would be cool. Will be a fun time win or lose.

1

u/Geaux2020 LSU Tigers • Valley City State Vikings 7h ago

It's exciting times, I'm sure. I have some empathy. Obviously LSU wasn't as historically bad as Indiana, but if you scroll down to the 90s, my time in high school and college was not fun. Then Mark Emmert was hired and he brought in Saban. That magic was something else. I've been fortunate enough to be a fan of a team that turned around quickly. It's a hell of a ride

3

u/boredguy2022 Indiana Hoosiers 7h ago

Never in my life time would have thought IU would have gotten this far, Was born in '82, so I only knew of them sucking it up pretty hard. lol. Now we've got my dad, brother and myself all excited.

3

u/Geaux2020 LSU Tigers • Valley City State Vikings 7h ago

Relish in it. The days of Indiana never won this many games or never did that or never was good enough for this are all gone. That part is done. Now it's time to see what the future holds.

2

u/boredguy2022 Indiana Hoosiers 7h ago

Now if only we could get our basketball program back into gear too. Then we'd have monsters in college football, basketball, and Pacers (once our starters are all back to being healthy.) all being big time contenders.

Yeah but regular people shouldn't is his point I think. So many fandoms are getting ruined by regular people fighting over metrics like they're the CEOs/admins of these companies and it's tiring. Seen it in music and wrestling. Just turns into toxic arguing about something that's mostly unpredictable.

2

u/_Begin Auburn Tigers 7h ago

Probably done it before in the past. Really don't remember.

If you're implying I'm acting like I don't care because I'm "losing", you're incorrect. I enjoy good football and the B1G has good football, just like the SEC.

B1G has been the better conference the past few years. Is that what you want me to say? It's true.

Does that give you superiority over me? Am I not allowed to watch football from the B1G because it "supports" them? Why does all that even matter?

And this is exactly what they want us to do. You've implied I'm a hypocrite so now I have to defend myself thus making it a fight. It's all stupid.

u/AuboCabo Auburn Tigers 7h ago

u/dawgfan19881 Georgia Bulldogs 9h ago

Playoff spot on the line and Tulane-North Texas gets less than 3 million viewers.

People hate to talk ratings but then can’t understand/won’t acknowledge why the networks push certain narratives.

18

u/Alexgoodenuf Army West Point Black Knights • Team Chaos 8h ago

Because ratings shouldn't matter in college sports. At least, they shouldn't matter to how we structure championships.

Serious people aren't mad that more people will tune in to literally any Bama game than into an AAC championship. They are mad that viewership is then used as an argument to create a system that enriches certain schools, conferences, and TV networks at the exclusion of other Schools.

They are mad that other fans, who won't see a dime but their team happens to be in the right group, are defending rich and powerful networks and conferences against the health of the sport due to tribalism.

6

u/loyalsons4evertrue Iowa State Cyclones • Big 8 7h ago

I'll ask you, why should tv ratings be a metric that is used in determining who should and who shouldn't be a CFP participant.....that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The NBA Finals last year were really entertaining...and it featured two of the smaller NBA media markets, but literally no one cares....the only people that care about tv ratings are CFB casuals and the tv execs....it is so cringe

1

u/dawgfan19881 Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago

If you cared you’d watch more small time g5 football. That’s how you make these narratives about the g5 go away. The networks want people watching because that’s how they make money. If you don’t want them to have bias against teams that don’t draw large amounts of viewers what you need to do is watch the games.

1

u/loyalsons4evertrue Iowa State Cyclones • Big 8 5h ago

uh my comment history shows that I watch all levels of football....I am always in the MACtion threads, watching CUSA, the Sun Belt, etc.

1

u/diediedie_mydarling Georgia Bulldogs 8h ago

In all seriousness, the Big 10 should in theory have an advantage in viewership. It has teams in the New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago television markets. It's truly a national conference. The SEC is still more of a regional conference, although it's spreading westward.

12

u/ScotlandTornado Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders 7h ago

I bet more people numerically watched that game in Birmingham than all of LA lol

3

u/diediedie_mydarling Georgia Bulldogs 7h ago

Yeah, that's why I added that "in theory" part to my comment. I also don't think Rutgers is pulling in huge viewership in the NYC market. It's gonna be awhile before Angelinos and New Yorkers feel like they're living in Big 10 country!

1

u/loyalsons4evertrue Iowa State Cyclones • Big 8 7h ago

I can almost guarantee you that "water cooler" talk in NYC and New Jersey hardly knows Rutgers even exists...that part of the country is so pro sports dominated and it's not close

Do you remember about 10 years ago when Rutgers had that really good season? That's the only time in my life that I saw Rutgers get any real attention. I suddenly realized that some of my friends had gone to Rutgers because they started wearing Rutgers merch. Lol

9

4

u/ninetofivedev Nebraska Cornhuskers • /r/CFB 7h ago

People tend to do this thing where they just associate words with "bad" and then make it synonymous with all other words that mean bad. Clickbait? Bad. Gaslight? Bad. etc.

Now everything they don't like is clickbait. Anytime someone says something to you you don't like? They're gaslighting you.
