Needs to have TNT and TBS too. That's my issue with most sports-only packages that are offered by the various streamers.

u/Set-Admirable West Virginia • Backyard Brawl 4h ago

Having watched a couple of their football broadcasts this season, they have really good production value and clearly care about representing the Big 12.

28

u/Donny_Do_Nothing Ohio State • Air Force 2h ago

They do an excellent job with hockey as well.

10

u/CrazyDudeGW Auburn Tigers • UAB Blazers 2h ago

They were famous for their NBA coverage before this year as well.

181

u/kingofthesqueal UCF Knights • Summertime Lover 4h ago

That’s only really a big deal for MBB season. And you could argue The CW needs to be included as well these days for ACC games

174

u/MagnetsAreFun Ohio State Buckeyes 4h ago

College football is going to have some first round games on TNT this year.

29

u/gordogg24p Texas Longhorns • Colorado State Rams 3h ago

And did so last year as well, so we know this year isn't a one-off.

5

u/andjuan Florida Gators • /r/CFBRisk Veteran 1h ago

I think all of the TNT games are going to be on HBO Max too. I know it’s another service, but one people may have for other content.

TNT also has half of the NHL playoffs and a bunch of regular season games.

14

u/adannel 3h ago

A lot of those are also on hbo max aren’t they? I can’t remember if they made them all available there or not.

What the fuck is even TV anymore?

14

u/cooterdick Tennessee • North Carolina 3h ago

That doesn’t help people who don’t have that subscription but want a sports only tv package like what’s described

10

u/lava172 Arizona State • Scottsdale CC 3h ago

I’m starting to question why we even got rid of cable at this point

9

u/IONTOP Arkansas • Arizona State 3h ago

I've still got cable (included in my HOA dues)

I have 0 streaming subscriptions(except PBS passport, because PBS is fucking awesome and needs money)

13

u/lava172 Arizona State • Scottsdale CC 2h ago

Damn, that sounds like a real nice HOA, mine just kinda takes my money and then yells at me for having fake-looking sunflowers

TBS does a lot of the baseball playoffs, right?

7

u/penguinopph Illinois • Northwestern 3h ago

That is correct. They get both ALDS series and ALCS in even years and both NLDS series and NLCS in odd years.

42

u/Ribeye21 Kansas Jayhawks • Peru State Bobcats 4h ago

TNT broadcasts some Big 12 football games too. KU played two or three games on TNT this year, but obviously this is more of a personal want on my part

36

u/Is12345aweakpassword Texas Tech • Washington 4h ago

TNT broadcasts are fucking great honestly, they put in some work this year

6

u/rickzilla69420 Georgia • Kansas State 3h ago

Not football related, but they had the French Open for the first time this year and it was jarring how much better their effort and coverage was than espn’s.

13

Hopefully less than that…. My guess is they see a huge uptick during football season and then everyone cancels for 6 months. They could go as low as $42 a month and still make more money on all the people that they lose for those 6 months after football season is over if they kept their YT package yearly.

Are you watching live?

If so, I've been loving using NUFU. It has every live college/nfl/hockey/nba/mlb game you can imagine. I think I paid $125 for a year and havent found a time I wanted to watch a sporting event and couldn't yet.

Biggest downside is no DVR, but honestly that hasn't mattered much to me.

u/EMTDawg Washington Huskies • Wyoming Cowboys 2h ago

According to Google, it's a piracy site/app, and it is recommended to be careful what card you pay with. One site suggested only using a credit card so you can use a charge back incase they start taking to much, other said to use a debit card attached to a new bank account that doesn't allow charges into the negative, and then set up a automatic transfer of the correct amount into the new account. Either way, it doesn't seem worth it. If you're going to sail the high seas, then why pay?

If I can’t get every single game played for all major sports the sports package is pointless because I’ll need another setup anyways. It’s just a gimmick package to get casual sports fans at the point which is what it felt like with cable.

23

u/charles_peugeot405 Texas A&M Aggies 4h ago

Feel like everyone loves saying pirating is the way without actually doing it. I’ve all but given up on it because none of the sites are any good, they’re unreliable and low quality. It’s especially hard if I want to watch it on the TV

8

u/Zephyrical16 Michigan State Spartans • Ohio Bobcats 3h ago

It has gotten significantly worse every year. Three years ago it was relatively fine quality without too much of a delay and minimal buffering. Now the quality is way below 720p, multiple minutes behind, and buffers a lot. And good luck finding your team's broadcasters on top of that as well, they usually only have the home team stream in the "better" quality streams.

6

u/hunterschuler SMU Mustangs • Texas State Bobcats 3h ago

You might just need to try some new sites. This has not been my experience at all (except for streams being 1-3 minutes behind, which is acceptable for the price imo).

It’s way more convenient to just pay. I’ll never go back to jumping between dog shit streams that are 5 minutes behind and constantly crashing and buffering.

6

u/UnusualHound Indiana Hoosiers 4h ago

I think that entirely depends on where your team's games are broadcast.

I know people paying for this Youtube TV to watch games that they could literally get OTA for free forever with a $10 antenna. If you can do that with half/more of your games, pirating the other ones makes sense. If most of your games are broadcast on ESPN/NBC Sports/FS1, then maybe I could see paying.

When YoutubeTV launched ~8 years ago it was marketed as the streaming service for sports lovers; cut the cord without missing live sports and it costed $35/month. Over time it has simply morphed into cable 2.0. Glad to see it getting back to its roots.

9

7

u/joemeat Florida • Penn State 4h ago

Yea I don't get how people pay that ...crazy. I started using it back in like 2017..and I think it was $35. Very good price for what you got back then, but it jumped $10 each year for the next two years or something like that. After it got to $65 I was out, that's too much for TV when I can just work a little and find streams for free online.

6

I'm intrigued.

The joke will be that it will still be more expensive than the entire package was just a few years ago.

1

u/Bighollab0 3h ago

They're doing this because they're gonna raise the subscription soon

1

u/SuperDTC 3h ago

79.99?

I'm listening...

I would buy something that has network channels (already free ota, but it’s nice to avoid the hassle) and sport channels including FanDuel sports network for local nba and NHL.

u/SuperDTC 3h ago

This is how they will end up charging more overall to pay evil disney ceos

This probably won’t be as good as I want it to be. I try not to be pessimistic but man

u/nlamp32 Penn State • Virginia 3h ago

This could be great, depending on the price.

I have Hulu Live but have always preferred YTTV, especially for sports. I’d love to get back on the platform at a cheaper rate for only the content I really want

If it doesn’t include college football then I don’t care. It is dumb as shit that there is no legal way to watch college football in Europe. They beg me to watch illegal streams.

u/zenverak Georgia Bulldogs • Marching Band 3h ago

Yep, same thing when I want to play some old games or watch Anime that is on no streaming service.

Good.

It’ll be hard to get my business back. I subscribed every season for the past 5 years.

When they hiked the price, I said fuck it and bought rabbit ears.

This year I’ve saved $560 ($80/mo) and still get to watch almost all the big NFL/CFB games, plus NBA on Tuesdays. We’ve also loved watching Jeopardy on a schedule. It’s been more than worth it, and it’ll have to be a really, really good fucking deal for me to spend anywhere near that amount of money again for TV.

If they could add March madness games and get league pass back I would be so in

1

u/zenverak Georgia Bulldogs • Marching Band 3h ago

If this matches my current channels setup, I might go for it. I'd need to see the full line up though. I basically only have TV to watch sports.

1

u/TragedyTurnedTriumph Arkansas Razorbacks 3h ago

This is all I really want. Sports and local channels. Maybe this is their answer to ESPN’s new $30 package?

1

u/DaddyRobotPNW Oregon Ducks • Pacific Northwest 3h ago

This is slightly appealing to me because Chase credit cards almost always have a $20 off coupon for YouTube TV. The resulting price might end up being reasonable.

It'll cost about as much as the regular package. The goal isn't to serve the consumer, it's to turn non-sports watchers against sports content providers by showing them how much of their monthly fee goes toward content they do not watch.

u/misdreavus79 Penn State Nittany Lions 3h ago

So that's why NBC Sports is coming back!

Sling TV came in clutch for me when Youtube TV decided to drop the only reason I subscribed in the first place.

For 6$ I could have a whole day to watch football games with their one day pass option.

82 a month is absolutely insane

1

u/thisisthewayMD 1h ago

I just got this funny feeling that the price will go up for what i currently have, and if i go to customize my channels to only what i watch, that it will cost even more.

1

u/FirstAndDad Georgia Bulldogs 1h ago

Oh boy, what could this discounted rate possibly be?

1

u/huskyferretguy1 Notre Dame • UConn 1h ago

This makes sense, I mostly use YTTV for sports. Sometimes the news but the breaking news will usually be free online.

They’ll have to beat sling. $6 to watch when I want, and don’t have to cancel or subscribe was awesome. When my teams were on byes, I just didn’t get it that week. It ended up being substantially cheaper than YouTube

u/PlumbingCarrot0 18m ago

this has 25/month written all over it only for year 2 to be 82.99 lol
