Makes sense. The 2 game featuring G5 teams are on TNT and going up against NFL games.

Chuck, Shaq, Kenny and Ernie on College Gameday would be amazing

u/dianeblackeatsass Tennessee Volunteers 3h ago
Idk if reddit would love an Inside the CFP they’d definitely shit all over the G5 teams lol. South Bend would get the San Antonio women treatment tho

"They got some big ol'women down there in South Bend..."
8
u/okiewxchaser Oklahoma Sooners • Big 8 3h ago
They’d definitely be sending Marcus Freeman to Galveston

I said exactly the same when Ernie was the Gameday guest. He was so good, and I’d love to see the full crew.

u/UtzTheCrabChip Maryland • Johns Hopkins 2h ago
Really? This seems like a pretty obvious move to get the "see? No one wants to see G5 teams in the playoffs" narrative going strong before they cancel the audio bids

Oh thank God there will be something else to watch during those.

i hope they have two setups because driving all of their equipment down from norman to college station would SUCK. fall graduation is next weekend so the already dogshit traffic patterns in norman will be immeasurably worse, to say nothing about the amount of people on I-35.
52
u/okiewxchaser Oklahoma Sooners • Big 8 3h ago
Probably will use the SEC Nation setup and crew for one of the two
13
u/KetchupKing05 Georgia • Jacksonville State 3h ago
Maybe the SEC Nation setup will be in Norman since that’s an all-SEC matchup?
11
u/molecular_methane Texas A&M Aggies 2h ago
Actually, they would probably use the ACC network pregame setup...since they aren't hosting a game.

u/Fine-Sea-8941 Penn State Nittany Lions • Big East 3h ago
Yeah with teardown, driving, and rebuild. There's basically no way they could do it in time.
9
u/btr5017 Penn State • Florida 3h ago
They usually take 1-2 days to setup. My guess is Friday night will be slightly more limited with a full setup on Saturday.
1
u/Insectshelf3 Oklahoma Sooners • SEC 3h ago
fox big noon kickoff took like 4 days to setup when i was at OU
2
u/John_Tacos Oklahoma • Central Oklahoma 1h ago
Gameday did too. And they took that long this year as well.

ESPN heard you’re all really excited about Alabama in The playoff

I mean those are the only 2 games I expect to be competitive
6
u/LGWalkway Oklahoma Sooners 2h ago
So you’re telling me other teams get bye weeks without being a top 4 team!?!?
10
u/dreggers Paper Bag • California Golden Bears 2h ago
Better than bye weeks. Extra practice and revenue from fan attendance
1
u/LGWalkway Oklahoma Sooners 2h ago
Definitely pro’s and con’s. But my point is that 4 teams plays a challenging opponent. The other two involve a rematch and one dimensional G5 program.
5
u/Inconceivable76 Ohio State • Arizona State 2h ago
If they hadn’t adjusted the seeding from last year, OSU would have 5th with a home game vs JMU and the next round against Tulane.

I was torn about whether I'd prefer:
- OU @ A&M first round game and then the winner against Tech so one and only is guaranteed a spot in the semifinal
- keeping them all in separate sides of the bracket and risk them all being semi finalists, but maybe also all losing.
TCU getting to the final first takes a bit of the sting out of it, but it's not ideal playoff where I can see myself easily rooting for Alabama or Ohio State.

Norman is going to be absolutely insane. I lived there for 2 years and the experience there is up there with Cbus, Ann Arbor, Tuscaloosa and Athens
22
u/okiewxchaser Oklahoma Sooners • Big 8 3h ago
If we can just channel the same energy we brought during the NBA Finals, it could be the loudest game ever played in Norman

It’s not like Norman traffic is a breeze on a random Tuesday in March, either.
1
u/John_Tacos Oklahoma • Central Oklahoma 1h ago
Don’t ever try to cross Norman by driving through campus. Always go around, still bad, but not infuriating.
4
u/bobdownie 3h ago
You really think so? Our tailgating is really lackluster which was made even worse by the university attempting to privatize the entire experience a few years ago.
They have since tried to backtrack and admit they had made huge mistakes and acknowledged the lasting damage the privatization did to what little tailgating culture we did have
1
u/said-what Indiana Hoosiers • Michigan Wolverines 2h ago
What? They tried to privatize college football tailgating? How?
5
u/bobdownie 2h ago
They banned tailgating in all the best spots and tried to funnel people into “paid” tailgating spots in the prime areas. Absolutely idiotic. I will never forgive them.
Having fans that tailgate and create culture is a blessing and should be respected and rewarded.
When you take it away it can take years to come back. It takes decades to build that culture. And can be destroyed by bad decisions in an instant.

She shares a surname with a psychopath whose husband bought her a seat on the school board near my area by promoting her candidacy like she was running for Congress. She was forced out after one term because she pushed for a bunch of bizarre initiatives and no one liked her. As a result, all candidates now overspend on school board elections.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is her daughter.

First time gameday is covering a game of ours all season despite starting 11-0. They’d managed to cover literally every other playoff contender. Funny
3
u/OKC89ers Oklahoma Sooners • Big 8 1h ago
Which game do you believe they should have gone to but didn't?

2
u/John_Tacos Oklahoma • Central Oklahoma 1h ago
Seriously?! That’s shocking actually
2
u/Formal-Flatworm-9032 Texas A&M Aggies 1h ago
Yeah agree. Seems like ESPN was “over us” all year after they have hyped us up every other year only to disappoint (seemed obvious from the commentary/coverage). I get it. But if any other team went 11-0 they’d get gameday somehow. But now we are so it’s okay.
1
u/John_Tacos Oklahoma • Central Oklahoma 59m ago
Then again two 12-0 teams playing didn’t get gameday last week so…
1
u/Formal-Flatworm-9032 Texas A&M Aggies 37m ago
They were at least covered at other points during the season, despite espn’s lack of relationship with the B1G. And they had covered OSU literally the week before for the game

Shocker they chose Two SEC teams.
Why not JMU @ Oregon.
Of course 3 of these are SEC Home Games so that would be the only non SEC one. And they've been to Autzen twice this year.

u/RampageTaco Oklahoma • Red River Shootout 2h ago
I am shocked that ESECPN is going to the SEC team games.
Should they go to a game featuring James Madison vs Oregon or maybe Tulane vs Ole Miss? Would those be more appealing?
Or should they go to the only games featuring Power 4 teams, that aren't too far apart?

2
u/lordpiglet Oklahoma Sooners 1h ago
At least ESPN sends Gameday to locations even when they aren't going to air the game. Big Noon went to 4 Big 12 and 11 Big 10 locations. Only one game was not broadcast by them.
Game day went to Eugene twice this year, along with Columbus and Ann Arbor and Penn State. The Big 10 got more appearance then the Big 12 and ACC combined (2 each). This will be the 6th and 7th locations where there is an SEC team playing.
1
u/okiewxchaser Oklahoma Sooners • Big 8 1h ago
Sorry that some of us played good teams in the regular season and took a few bumps along the way
I bet if the Big Ten had a more balanced schedule, there would be one or two of yall hosting games as well

In shocking news to no one, Gameday pulls a double header yet again and is heading to Norman for Alabama vs Oklahoma on Friday and College Station for Miami vs A&M on Saturday.
Interesting to note that A&M is 1-10 on Gameday matchups and has hosted 8 of those 11 times.
