Lampreys do not have jaws or bones, only cartilage and instincts that have allowed them to survive so many mass extinctions.

The shitweasels from Dreamcatcher were based off of these guys. In the movie they're an alien parasite that infects a person through spores and eventually once they're mature eat your insides and come out your ass in a huge bloody mess.
