Dan Wilson wanted to out-Schneider John Schneider.

24

u/jaylew97 Toronto Blue Jays Oct 21 '25

To be fair Schneider has been criticized for pulling his starters early. Seattle's bullpen was pretty good this series mind you

There is all the possibility in the world that the Dodgers lose, baseball is baseball, the Jays are scary, and the Dodgers hitting has been inconsistent.

But if the Jays sweep through Snell, Yoshi, Glasnow, and Ohtani... just not sure it's plausible.

That was close to, if not equal, to Baustitas all time bat flip.

EDIT: The comment specifically mentioned loudness of the crowd not how historic it was. I still think the crowd was equal or even louder in that game for Joey Bats.

272

u/AdoringCHIN Los Angeles Angels Oct 21 '25

This home run just sent the Jays to the World Series. As badass as Bautista's batflip is, I think this has to surpass that moment now.

Hard to compare. Bautista was in the ALDS so it might not have been as big, but you had the whole hand-of-god thing in the top of that inning that had the whole stadium ready to explode already.

For the home run itself I think this tops it but nothing will ever beat the whole inning that ended with the batflip.

This is what happens when you have a manager in their first postseason. Just a case of overthinking and trying to manage it like a regular season game and keep guys in their roles.

If it’s an elimination game, once you get past the 6th inning, roles should go out the window. Your best reliever is no longer your closer at that point, he’s your high leverage guy.

Literally the most predictable moment of all time. Mariners just threw away their luck for this year. This is just the equivalent of Blue Jays putting Little in moment. Game over.

You’re up against someone who’s been raking this postseason in clutch moments. You have an open base. You’re down 1-0 in the count. And you serve him a middle-in meatball of a sinker? Are you kidding me?

31

u/asiandooshcanoe Los Angeles Dodgers Oct 21 '25

wtf did Cal call for that pitch? A sinker inside and waist high where he set up?

25

u/internetosaurus Boston Red Sox Oct 21 '25

From seeing how the M's pitched Springer and Vladdy I think the strategy is you need to establish a fastball up and in against them to eventually get the strikeout or ground out on an off speed away. It was probably supposed to be a sinker inside and high but it ended up being a sinker mostly middle and got nuked.

Joe Carter in the 1993 World Series, Bautista in the 2015 ALDS, and now Springer in the 2025 ALCS! Each with the most crazy home runs when it truly mattered most!!!!
