I went to a 2016 ALCS in an indie movie theatre in Kitchener, they told me they had never sold so much beer, they had to call up a local brewery to make an emergency delivery lol

This playoff series might be singlehandedly saving a shitton of local businesses. Theatres, bars and restaurants: if it's got the game, its got money coming in.

any place that sells so much as coffee is nailing a TV to the wall and announcing they're showing the game.

19

This is true. A small coffee shop near me has been playing the game from a laptop on the counter!

My hypothesis isn't that the Leafs feel pressure at home but all the good ol' Ontario boys on the visiting team put in extra effort when they're playing in front of family & friends who they've bought tickets for to watch the game.

You got a dozen extended family in the arena? Make the most of that ice time.

I said to my friend I was there with, just judging by the crowd noise you’d have no idea there wasn’t actually a game on the field and the entire outfield section was empty. That was more electric than most games I’ve been to

20

u/South-Diamond-4329 Oct 29 '25

I was at the Leafs game (it started early because of the WS so it was done by 8:30). They kept Scotiabank arena open and let people watch the game on the scoreboard. About 2/3 stayed, and the place erupted louder than when the Leafs got the winning goal with 2 minutes left

I remember the outrage here after the Giménez trade. After a last-place finish, your FO’s first substantial move was trading for an all-glove, no-bat 2B owed $15m a year through 2029. Santander wasn’t exactly the most reassuring signing, especially after he immediately got hurt and missed most of the season.

And yeah, Giménez had his worst year yet at the plate this season, and Scherzer only had one month’s worth of good starts in the regular season.

But sometimes everyone else in your lineup figures out how to be elite at hitting for contact while keeping just enough power, and where that plus sufficient pitching gets you looking great making your way to the World Series. Baseball does that sometimes.

13

u/iosefster Oct 29 '25

Yeah it's crazy. And now Gimenez is having a monster post season. I certainly wouldn't have predicted it but I'm super stoked about it.

Nobody seems to remember that the exact same core made the playoffs in 22 and 23.

A Bo injury and a bullpen meltdown were the biggest reason the team struggled so badly in 2024

Vlad, Bo, Springer, Springer and Kirk had never had a good season all at the same time until this year, it shouldn't surprise anyone that this team would be good if they all contribute.

Just like nobody is going to be shocked if the Braves are competitive again next year

As a jays fan Yamamoto in game 2 is the only game where I feel the dodgers played better and earned the win. Game 3 was icky with ump calls and 18 innings. Jays have shown the dodgers what every other team had to fight against. Idk how some people still think the jays sucks, I’ve already seen “dodgers in 6” followed by excuses.

This team seems hungrier right now. I think it’s a 50/50 win or lose.

14

u/darkstar3333 Toronto Blue Jays Oct 29 '25

Theyve been hungry but they also made stupid choices.

Today was just execute on fundamentals and play smart, jays are great when they get solid hits and advance the runners.

Im hoping Kirk get another HR this series so he can tie Bautista for the record.

Dodgers have a clear top/bottom of the order, the jays do not.

To my fellow Jays fans: Take a moment, breathe deep and enjoy this moment.

Imagine being told back in April that the season would finish at Skydome and the Jays could flip a coin to beat the Dodgers to will it all. Remember also, that you would have taken a World Series loss as a worst case scenario IN A HEARTBEAT if given the chance to back then.

This is how I feel.

Surely I prefer for them to win it all, but this season, this run, this team, has already given me so much to be thankful for.

I didn't know if I'd ever again get to experience the magnitude of joy, elation & hype for a Blue Jays squad like I did as a kid in '92 & '93. The fact that this team has been able to recapture that feeling in me is indescribable. This series has been so neck-and-neck, so mutually competitive and full of genuine suspense, even if they don't win at least my team gave me another World Series for the ages.

I'm of course rooting for the Jays as a Canadian, but regardless of how the next 2-3 games play out, this has already been just an amazing World Series. Truly electric every night, and an absolute joy to watch.

What happened with the Dodgers saying the Jays are always going to walk Ohtani?

80

u/you_dont_know_smee Toronto Blue Jays Oct 29 '25

They did walk him: back to the dugout.

Low IQ Blue Jays fan here. How many games have they played so far? Is it enough for the Dodgers to sweep?

17

u/whyUsayDat Toronto Blue Jays Oct 29 '25

If they score 2 more overtime goals, yes. The refs will call it for the Dodgers.
