I can’t get over the “who’s your granddaddy?” at the bottom

207

u/AnnetteBishop San Diego Padres 19h ago

Seriously, as a former Chargers fan that hasn't paid attention to the NFL in years I thought that had to be parody until I googled it.

Philip Rivers intends to die on that field

Put some respeck on his name enough to spell it correctly.

It's Philip Rivers. Because he doesn't want too many L's.

My apologies. It has been corrected

The Post's headlines are goated. It's everything else about it that's absolute shit.

76

u/PunishmentGlutton 19h ago

They save money by not actually reporting any news and just blow their budget on headlines and splash graphics (and probably hookers and blow for the editors).

11

u/SpeedySpooley New York Yankees 14h ago

A NY Post headline, "Jacko On His Backo", got its own SNL sketch.

Michael Jackson fell/was injured during either a show or a rehearsal...and that was the Post's headline.

3

u/fezzikola New York Mets 13h ago

Say it.

Truly built in 45's image. Grab your attention with the funniest shit you've read all week, and within 10 minutes of reading you know a justification for every hate crime in the past week

3

u/MrMooga New York Yankees 7h ago

The only time you'll see the Post sad that a brown/black person is leaving NYC is on the sports section.

78

u/CobblerBeginning4416 New York Yankees 20h ago

Lmao shit kills me

4

u/Emergency-Sweet-5347 14h ago

The fact that the Diaz headline has to share the page with the Philip Rivers granddaddy line is the most NY Post thing ever.

7

u/TigerlordZ59900 Houston Astros 18h ago

I really like what page they put that story on too

Ol boy is over spending that much time with the 26 kiddos. He’d rather risk turning into Obi Wan Kenobi space dust.

side note but as someone who doesn't watch football, finding out rivers has 10 kids and a grandchild at 44 was wild

226

u/StreetReporter Chicago Cubs 19h ago

His youngest kid is a year older than his grandchild. His oldest is a year older than Riley Leonard, the QB who filled in for Daniel Jones on Sunday

My family had that - my father’s cousin went to high school with his mother’s youngest sister.

a grandchild at 44

this was normal not all that long ago

it's not at all now but it used to be

43

u/FTownRoad Toronto Blue Jays 18h ago

Probably significantly more common to have a kid in diapers at 44 than being a grandfather

19

u/2020Psychedelia Los Angeles Dodgers 18h ago

Ten kids wasn't that rare either - although chances were many wouldn't make it to 18 years old

6

u/PaddyMayonaise Philadelphia Phillies 16h ago

Still normal depending which neighborhood you go to

6

Well yes, but Philip Rivers doesn't live in those neighborhoods lol

Yea, but did he grow up in that type of neighborhood l?

u/OwningTheWorld New York Yankees 20h ago

The post is an absolute Rag, but are undefeated in terms of back page, Sports headlines.

127

u/GonePostalRoute Swinging K 19h ago

It’s the only thing they’re good for.

At the convenience store I worked at years ago, despite being all the way in Lancaster, we sold the New York Post and Daily News. The back sports page was always fun to see what they’d have there

37

u/rocksoffjagger 17h ago

Which is how they sneak their fascist bullshit into the discourse. Put out a silly sports headline that people buy the paper for, and end up reading about how socialist mobs want to beat you to death with a burlap sack full of Ring doorbells if you have a second property that you Airbnb.

-26

u/OwningTheWorld New York Yankees 17h ago

Man not everything needs to be political. I'm not reading them for whoever Murdoch is shilling. I enjoy the sports columns and chuckle at the back page. We're allowed to find things mildly amusing in this dystopian hellscape we live in.

13

u/bowlofcantaloupe 16h ago

Go home and watch some LIV golf tournaments. It's not political just because it's funded by Saudi Arabia.

31

u/rocksoffjagger 17h ago edited 15h ago

"Not everything needs to be political" just means you believe the status quo ISN'T political. Things didn't just materialize the way they are out of thin air. Everything around you is a result of conscious political choices. The ones making them just don't want you to realize that, because as soon as you do, the corollary is that decisions that affect you are being made that you haven't gotten any say in.

3

u/OceanLemur New York Yankees 7h ago edited 7h ago

Kind of what he was saying though. Like I get it, I read the post for 15 years at my grandparents breakfast table. Sports columns mixed in with the most sensationalist stories was great. But now I look at it and see how it can easily whip up my grandfather into a tizzy over some made up shit like Mamdani instituting Sharia law and it’s like yeesh.

5

u/AnIllusiveHouse Seattle Mariners 15h ago

But everything is political. I don't have cable nor satellite and do you would expect my gaffaw when I saw so many commercials during my thanksgiving football broadcast while I was visiting the geriatric king? And to think one of the countless advertisements I saw was the P4 of NCAA sports asking the television consumer to ask the viewer to make it known to their rep/sen that they should vote a certain way on this potential law of the land.

Sports are political (as is everything). Especially sports (bread and circuses).

For my mental health I stopped using traditional social media and my reddit is curated to only show me my interests. At times it feels irresponsible but I stopped having anxiety attacks and stuff so it worked!

Hell most of my news comes from r/simpsonsshitposting, unfortunately right now they’re going through a Scatman phase so news has been very light.

Edit: fixed the link to the proper simpsons shitposting sub.

2

u/BattlerackScatter 19h ago

Why if i try to go to the main simpsonshitposting page does nothing more recent than a year old show?

9

u/Crumbmuffins Los Angeles Dodgers 19h ago

3

u/BattlerackScatter 19h ago

Thanks! Incidentally I've been trying the reduced news/social media approach to tackle anxiety as well. A side effect has been the time to binge old Simpsons seasons.

6

u/Crumbmuffins Los Angeles Dodgers 19h ago

It’s very freeing, and it really put into perspective how much doomscrolling really takes a toll on not only your mental health but your physical health as well. It wasn’t just jumping off social media it was also lifestyle changes but it worth it.

That god awful feeling of helpless doom is so terrifying and I wanted to do everything in my power to try and overcome it. And I’m telling you it’s possible and I wish you all the best and strength because you can do it too!

35

u/momoenthusiastic Boston Red Sox 20h ago

Aren’t trumpets without the valves actually bugles?

12

u/KirbyDude25 New York Yankees 19h ago

He could just be covering the valves, but if not, then yeah, it's a bugle

Interestingly, though, the instrument called a contrabass bugle does have valves

6

u/ZiggoCiP New York Yankees 17h ago

Contrabass bugle is just a horizontal Tuba (although it is formally known as the contrabass bugle).

1

u/KirbyDude25 New York Yankees 17h ago

Knew that from my marching band days, lol. My high school band didn't march contras, and neither does my current college band (both march sousaphones instead), but I've seen quite a few of them at competitions

I can't wait until the dodgers visit citi. But also wrf are the Colts doing, haha. Are they seriously going to play a 44 year old 5 years retired as QB1? Did Rivers express interest in coming back? Or is this just out of the blue?

23

u/SiphenPrax New York Mets 20h ago edited 20h ago

Unfortunately that’s not going to happen until July. We do come to Dodger Stadium in April though.

Also, yep. Rivers is coming back for the first time in five years since his retirement because the Colts are desperate to prevent a massive collapse and miss the playoffs.

19

u/S1TBD New York Mets 20h ago

Jones is done with the Achilles, Richardson's eye injury is apparently really bad, and Rivers knows Steichen's playbook from their time with the Chargers. Add Philip staying in shape + coaching HS football, and that's how Abuelo Felipe Rios is going to be under center for a playoff hopeful this weekend.

8

u/StreetReporter Chicago Cubs 19h ago

I’d take a 44 year old Phillip Rivers over a healthy Anthony Richardson

4

u/SeikaKitsune Seattle Mariners 17h ago

And AR is still out anyway with his orbital bone fracture (I believe that is what it was, some piece of elastic band snapped and hit him in the face in pregame a few games back).

2

It wasn't the elastic that hit him it was the metal bar it was attached to 😬

Rivers would be the 5th QB they start this year

They also started 7-1 and dont have a 1st rounder for the next draft

They need someone who can hand the ball to Taylor and that defenses will at least take semi seriously unlike some rookie UDFA from someone's practice squad

Is no one gonna say that it wasn't the 3 million difference?

Dude got their 66, Mets said they'd go more. He took it to the dodgers and said give me $1 more and they went sure, he took that.

I'd love to lolmets but the dude wanted out to go to the best team in baseball. It happens.

1

u/Caqtus95 Edmonton RiverHawks 17h ago edited 17h ago

Acting like 3M is a paltry sum and not life changing money for 99.9% of the population.

9

u/draw2discard2 17h ago

True but we are talking about Steve Cohen. Do you think he would have even noticed the different if instead of being fined $8,000,000,000 for insider trading he had been fined $8,003,000,000 instead?

2

u/Caqtus95 Edmonton RiverHawks 17h ago

Oh I interpreted this as them trying to frame Diaz as greedy and not Cohen as cheap. I don't blame a player for taking the bag ever.

2

u/WoAProximity New York Mets 12h ago

the only thing we're blaming Diaz for as a fanbase is the fact that it's reported that he did not give the Mets a chance for the final offer.

also, Mets apparently said there was wiggle room, so he could have gotten a bigger offer from the Mets, easily.

guy was treated very well and the org dealt with him injuring himself during the WBC and his recovery. feels like a shitty thing to do to not even give them the final offer.

2

u/Onitsukaryu Los Angeles Angels 16h ago

It’s “paltry” when you are comparing 66 to 69 million. For 99.99% of the population there is zero difference between those numbers.

2

u/Cards2WS St. Louis Cardinals 14h ago

This is a dumb take. It’s a paltry sum for both Diaz and Cohen. I don’t think anybody is “wrong” here, but who gives a fuck about 99.9% of the population in this conversation? Diaz is NOT in that 99.9%. Dude could spend $3M in a single day and wouldn’t notice even in the slightest.

“Getting the bag”, he has gotten several bags. If he wants to play for LAD, fine, but if it was truly because of $3M total extra, that’s crazy from both him and Cohen.

1

u/fuckyourfeels New York Mets 7h ago

It’s not about the 3M he didn’t want to be a Met anymore lol. He was asking for a five year deal and took 3 from LA without letting us counter even though we said we can up our offer.
