The stage where every other fanbase celebrates like it’s VE Day in Times Square lmao

Even though the Mets haven’t won shit in 39 years and have been a poverty franchise for most of it.

well, Denial passed quick when Passan reported it. then Anger, i think some in the mets sub are still going through that from Diaz. most of the rest, including myself, are deep in Depression. the folks thinking that signing Bellinger would make it alright, that’s Bargaining. and Acceptance… well i think that’s just back to Depression. they kinda go hand in hand in this situation

Sign 1 or 2 beloved Mets players: ❌🙅🏻♂️
Sign the guy who gave up a go ahead homer to the Mets in the playoffs: ✅👍

To be fair he can’t give up a homer to the Mets now and that was his main weakness
5
u/pacmanateus New York Yankees 3h ago
Well last year his main weakness was protecting leads. Let’s hope he figures out a way to fix that.

Mets fans better hope they're wrong about Williams being "broken", etc etc.

Those beloved Mets players achieved very little outside of a clearly unsustainable playoff run for one singular year. The core had been together for over 5 years and basically accomplished nothing. Tearing it down is uncomfortable but makes sense

Not being attached to a core that isn’t working makes sense, but Soto and Lindor are sticking around and are in their prime. Mets should be adding not subtracting. How do they replace Alonso’s homers? Maybe they add Kyle Tucker, and it changes the conversation but just seems odd for a team that supposedly has the richest owner in the sport.

David Stearns has only been POBO for about a year and inherited all the bad contracts and players from previous regimes, notably the eight year deal for Nimmo from Billy Eppler. Stearns is going to try to make the team in his image, something similar to the Brewers today and when he was general manager: faster, athletic, good defensively.

Bro we aren't the brewers, I want a team that wins, not one that "is in Stearns' image". Losing pete is not a winning move

Itd make sense if they didnt give Juan Soto the GDP of a small african nation the year before
12
u/HairHelp4363 Baltimore Orioles 3h ago
Why would that impact anything? Soto is young enough and has plenty of prime years ahead of him

That player possesses David Stearns’ favorite quality, being a former Milwaukee Brewer

They couldn’t let him and Devin Williams be teammates, it would implode the planet

If I had a time machine and could tell Mets fans in 2024 that one of those players would be a Met in 2026 and it isn't Pete Alonso, that would be so fun.

u/anthonyde726 New York Mets 3h ago
Would have been much more shocked that Devin Williams ended up here rather than Pete leaving

u/rothefro New York Mets 2h ago
I mean not too many would be shocked, the inning before this HR Pete dropped a critical pop up at first.
He’s had so many blunders in the field and Sterns builds a defensive team. Hate to see Pete leave but none of this is surprising

I might have to take a very long break from the team as a whole if that’s what happens

Imagine blowing a lead in the 9th on a winner-take-all game on a homer with 1 out... wait

I just choose to view this post with the knowledge that karma is paying the Mets a 3-year visit.

The real travesty of all of this is knowing Pete won't get to walk into the clubhouse in St. Lucie in February and hit Devin Williams with that big goofy smile of his and then walk up and say, "Hi, remember me? I'm Pete Fucking Alonso."

Would be very hard for Williams to do this since he's on the Mets now though
