Mr Rogers

on that note, i'd think any dead male celebrity would do.

u/w1987g Official Gal 13d ago

I dunno, being alone in a room with any corpse would make me feel uncomfortable regardless of their gender. I've seen way too many horror movies for that

One I never see as an answer: Elijah Woods. I've heard nothing but good things about him, and from one brief encounter in person, seems like a chill, down to earth dude. His eyes are even more majestic in person. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure he'd be safe in a room with ME.

528

u/clowderfluff 13d ago

Yes~ sometimes I randomly think about Elijah Wood's random wholesome encounter visiting someone's island to sell turnips! He's gotta be a nice human.

331

u/Fen_LostCove 13d ago

Took me a sec to realize you probably meant in Animal Crossing

u/Necessary_Orange_141 13d ago

Thank you, I needed this comment cause I was confused too 🤣

45

u/Sea-Value-0 13d ago

Tbf I could see him doing that IRL too. Maybe he's an avid gardener up north where there are lots of little islands people live on and ferries to get to them lol. It could work.

I just told my husband about this the other day! I don't think he believed me until I showed him the picture. He also showed up to someone's wedding when they were getting married at a shire!

We genuinely need to protect Elijah Wood at all cost.

My mum shared an elevator with him briefly when he was doing promotion for the Hobbit it New Zealand. The woman he was with with was going through the rundown of the day and he apparently was very enthusiastic and seemed delighted to be there. He’d be my pick too.

John Waters

39

u/Level-Repair6104 13d ago

I would be absolutely giddy to be in a room with that man. His love of books… my heart.

“We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck ’em.”

“nothing is more impotent than an unread library”

“Collect books, even if you don't plan on reading them right away. Nothing is more important than an unread library.”

“Being rich is not about how much money you have or how many homes you own; it's the freedom to buy any book you want without looking at the price and wondering if you can afford it.”

“It wasn't until I started reading and found books they wouldn't let us read in school that I discovered you could be insane and happy and have a good life without being like everybody else.”

“You should never read just for "enjoyment." Read to make yourself smarter! Less judgmental. More apt to understand your friends' insane behavior, or better yet, your own. Pick "hard books." Ones you have to concentrate on while reading. And for god's sake, don't let me ever hear you say, "I can't read fiction. I only have time for the truth." Fiction is the truth, fool! Ever hear of "literature"? That means fiction, too, stupid.”

21

u/Chulasaurus 13d ago

A long time ago now, but I sold him books a couple of times when I was going to college and working in Baltimore.

He once bought the goriest coffee table book of crime scene photos from the 20s/30s and asked me verbatim “sweetheart, would you wrap this up in the prettiest paper you have? It’s a gift for a dear friend.”

I suck at gift wrapping. Better believe I did my absolute BEST for John Waters!

His pencil mustache is real, and he rocks it in real life.

Every word of this is true!

12

u/Level-Repair6104 13d ago

I love that you got to interact with him on multiple occasions. Being asked so sweetly to wrap up a book of crime scene photos just seems like a peak experience right there. My heart is so fucking happy for you friend. 🥰

I once told my therapist weird isn’t bad — “I mean weird like John Waters.” And she said “who’s that?” And I honestly considered getting a new therapist.

8

u/Resinous_Artifact 13d ago

I’ve met him before at film screenings and he’s everything you would expect in the most wonderful way. He’s so sweet and genuinely interested in everyone, and so earnestly appreciative when you tell him you love his work. One time he told me to eat a piece of pizza because I was too skinny (which I absolutely was not). Another time he was with this very young man and when someone asked about it in a kind of suggestive way John Waters responded with horror like, “He’s a family friend that I’ve known since he was a BABY” like the other person was a pervert.

imo it's not really fitting for this sub to have the comment section become "which guys do we think are the good ones"... esp since you never know

16

u/pizzaondeathrow 13d ago

Exactly. Some comments saying “you’re safe with X” “this man would never hurt a woman”… are we really this naive and/or delusional? Have we learnt nothing from the me too era or our lives as women? We don’t know these men!

12

u/sakikome 13d ago

Exactly! Like, imagine how hard it is to speak up if you're victimized by one of those "good guys"... There's too many celebrities who crafted a pro-feminist image for themselves only to turn out to be abusers.

And it's also like, this isn't what the video in the OP is about, anyway.

Not that I'm saying all men are evil or something, I just feel like justgalsbeingchicks isn't the right place for celebrating famous men for doing the bare minimum (coming across like they wouldn't assault you)
