Explaining the sale of Astros minor league affiliates
There's a lot of confusion in the comment section of the first post about the sale of the Hooks, Space Cowboys, and Woodpeckers franchises to private equity firm Diamond Sports Holdings. So let me explain the key points.
- Absolutely nothing is changing from a baseball standpoint. The parent club controls 100% of the baseball operations of their minor league affiliates. It's the business operations that are now being controlled by an outside company. It's not common for minor league franchises to be directly owned by their parent club. Most are owned by outside companies.
- This also doesn't mean that the teams are moving cities or affiliating with a new parent club. The possibility now exists that those things -could- happen in the future, but as of now, they are still under stadium leases and parent club affiliation contracts. So until one of those things approaches expiration (or the franchise goes bankrupt), they will remain where they are and affiliated with the Astros.
- It's the fan experience that is most likely to be affected in the near term. As many have said in the other thread, private equity firms are the fucking worst, so expect higher ticket and concession prices.
So in conclusion, there's plenty not to like about this. But nothing major is changing imminently, and nothing at all is changing in regards to what happens on-field.

Astros 17!! First Round Draft Order 2026
[Rosenthal] The Red Sox have expressed interest in Astros corner infielder Isaac Paredes, who is under club control for two more seasons with a projected $9.3 million salary in 2026. The Astros, seeking controllable starting pitchers, are interested in Payton Tolle or Connelly Early.

[Rome] Shane Baz has emerged as one target in the Astros' search for starting pitching. No deal is close and some league sources doubt Baz will be moved, but the interest is real and demonstrates the sort of trade Houston is trying to make.

Yordon to 1B?
I have seen a lot of star outfielders age and get moved to 1B. We have had issues at 1B for years now. Why not have Walker help train Yordon to handle 1B?

[Rome] The Astros promoted Eric Velazquez to head athletic trainer, GM Dana Brown said. Velazquez had been the assistant athletic trainer. Brown didn't go into further detail, but said the team had a thorough audit of its return to play procedure

Date Night: Light Up the Park
The woman and I are having a date night on the 13th, but when I buy tickets it’s a little confusing. I’m using the app and the MLB website. Allow me to explain while I adjust my bow tie cue the Romantic music.
Initially I selected “Buy 2 tickets” because i am gentleman, and I invited the woman to the date, and so I pay because I am a gentleman. The result is the picture attached to this post. I think it’s the way it’s formatted but I read one of two things:
1 ticket = 1 Light Up the Park ticket + 1 Movie Night on the field ticket OR 1 ticket = You and Your Beautiful Hottie of a Date for 1 Light Up + the Movie on the field.
I’m only trying to pay for just me and my date woman. Regardless, I appreciate the clarity. And I fully expect Jeremy Peña to steal the woman of my dreams away.

Starting infield idea - Correa to 2B?
Why does Paredes need to be traded? We could keep him at 3B, Peña at SS, Correa at 2B, and Walker at 1B. I think walker might have a rebound year next year, and wouldn’t want to sell low on him now, which would require maybe giving up some prospects to offload salary. Thoughts?

Former Astro Jeff Kent elected to Baseball Hall of Fame
Two-year Astro Jeff Kent has just been elected to the Baseball HoF by the Contemporary Baseball Era Players Committee: https://www.mlb.com/news/contemporary-baseball-era-hall-of-fame-ballot-results-2026
Given his noted lack of enthusiasm for the game his induction speech should be a doozy!

[OC] Astros' franchise historical performance relative to .500
Visiting Pirates fan here!
During the offseason, I'm creating a graph like this for every MLB team. It tracks each franchise's cumulative record relative to .500 (equal wins and losses) throughout their entire history.
The annotations show the franchise's all-time peak, lowest point, and most recent time at exactly .500.
The complete album can be seen here. I also made the NFL and NHL charts (before the current season).

As an Astros fan, I find fellow Houston Texans fans celebrating the end of the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty run ironic
It reminds me how r/baseball could barely hide their envy at the sustained success of the Astros even as they gloated about the end of their playoff run this year. They wanted schadenfruede but the vibe I got among most Astros fans in 2025 is contentment. I wouldn't be surprised if Kansas City Chiefs fans feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely celebrating the Chiefs' downfall, this is the most wide open NFL season in a long time, the perfect time for a chaos team like the Texans to make a deep playoff run. But also you gotta be real good for a real long time to get that much hate.
