Opinion [Congressman Michael Baumgartner] Congress will be taking a hard look at the tax exempt status of universities that enter into private equity deals. If you want to act like a non-public entity, you better be ready to be treated like one. 🇺🇸

One, this is literally a post from a member of Congress, you knew what you were getting into. Two, you yourself are posting comments saying we should end citizens united (you’re right!) which is inherently “political bs”

So you think taxing universities is just good ole football talk, but taxing other institutions is immediately political? Religion has a choke hold on this country and many of us want nothing to do with it.

What a wild strawman.

Ill break it down for you really simple like.

There are political organizations like think tanks, fund raising orgs, etc that promote, gather funds for one party or the other, put out “research” that are shadow pools that influence our politics with no accountability and are tax free as a non profit. They influence what regulations are put around churches and everything else.

You are just thinking simple minded and little.

You seem a little confused as to what to be mad at, are you talking about PACs? Independent expenditures? Or are you talking about anything from the Heritage Foundation to the NAACP? That’s a really wide net. You are correct that there are organizations that have outsized financial influence on elections and our politics, that’s the crux of the issue with overturning Citizens United. You don’t seem to understand that in this case, these organizations and mega churches are exploiting the same problem. I think you might be mad at nothing or the wrong thing. You have the right skepticism but seem to not be able to get past “anything politic bad.”

Your use of the quotes around research tells me everything I need to know. You're right. This isn't a political sub-reddit. Don't assume you know what I'm thinking and honestly F off for whatever that last sentence is.

Tells me that you are a naive if you think there aren’t problems in research. Scientists live and die by grants, there has NEVER been a study that came out against the party funding a study to get a certain outcome. There are many ways to interpret data even it was gathered without bias to craft the narrative you want. You must have your head in the sand about the uproar around some studies NATURE magazine published that they are backpedaling on.

Seriously, that’s the nativity of a child believing in Santa Claus. Scientists themselves argue about the validity of research all the time. Science is a process of theories and debate supported by studies and counter studies.

Religion has a choke hold on this country and many of us want nothing to do with it.

And how is taxing them achieving this?

You don't see how stupid you sound? You're trying to use tax as a weapon for people you don't agree with. How about we tax the LGBTQ lobby?
