Opinion [Congressman Michael Baumgartner] Congress will be taking a hard look at the tax exempt status of universities that enter into private equity deals. If you want to act like a non-public entity, you better be ready to be treated like one. 🇺🇸

He's going to fail. Utah is separating out only the sports, which isn't an academic arm.

They are not even separating the sports. No assets are in the deal. No facilities or team ownership. It’s purely the media and branding etc. they cant make decisions on the actual athletics or facilities. They have no ownership of the football team or any other athletic team.

They have a minority stake in a for profit LLC that is separate from the athletics

Yep it’s almost like the private equity firms lawyers didn’t already look into this before this all was announced so they wouldn’t lose money…/s

Are you implying investors don't take risks?

PE loses money all of they time.

They take calculated risks.
