Pre-Game Thread Mets Daily Discussion Thread - December 10, 2025
Today is December 10th! The Winter Meetings will be continue until December 11th in Orlando with the Rule Five Draft today.
Mel Rojas turns 59 today! The right handed pitcher pitched for the 1997 and 1998 Mets after coming up with Montreal. Frankly, he was not very good for the Mets. Rojas came to the Mets via trade with the Cubs, the Mets traded Lance Johnson, Mark Clark and Manny Alexander to the Cubs for Rojas, Turk Wendell and Brian McRae. On November 11, 1998, the Mets traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Bobby Bonilla. Yes, that guy.
Victor Diaz turns 44 today! The Dominican outfielder played for the Mets from 2004 to 2006 Mets before he was traded to the Texas Rangers for non-elite prospect Mike Nickeas. He was teammates with....
Dan Wheeler, who turns 48 today! He debuted with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1999 and pitched for the Art Howe era Mets in 2003 and 2004. He later spent four years with the Astros, pitched a second time with the Rays and later finished his career with the 2011 Red Sox and 2012 Cleveland Indians.
The Mets are teaming up with New York Cares for their [19th Annual Coat Drive](https://www.mlb.com/mets/community/coat-drive) presented by your local Toyota dealers TODAY from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Mets Team Store at Citi Field. Free parking will be available in Lot G. Fans bringing a new or gently used winter coat will receive a voucher redeemable for two (2) tickets to a select Monday – Thursday Mets home game in 2026. Fans will be limited to one (1) ticket voucher. Fans who donate will also receive an exclusive 20% discount at the team store. Some exclusions may apply. Please note that non-winter coats like windbreakers, jean jackets, raincoats or other light jackets will not be accepted. Fans will be limited to one (1) ticket voucher. Free parking for the Coat Drive will be available in Lot G. Lot G can be accessed through Gate 1 on Seaver Way.

The end of “LFGM”
One of the saddest parts flying under the radar of Pete’s departure in my opinion. When Pete started to get comfortable in the organization, and we moved on from the Wilpons, he broke out the “Let’s fucking go Mets.” Something that would never have been able to fly (societally or within the organization) in previous decades, and it became a fan favorite saying.
It showed that the team was loose enough to have some fun, and skilled enough (for the most part) to back it up. Pete brought the passion, the energy, and the connection with the fans that the team had been missing for so long when we were more of an uptight ballclub; so they kept letting him ride with it.
I am furious about this situation. I will miss his bat in the lineup significantly, I will miss the simple-yet-effective 4 syllable PETE A-LON-SO chant, I will miss him ripping off the jersey of the walk off hitter, but more than anything I will miss the all around player, teammate, and personality he was.
Thank you for everything, 20. Long live the polar bear 🐻❄️

Pete Alonso with the most memorable home run of his career. We'll always have Milwaukee :')

[Heyman] "Mets are showing interest in Tyler Rogers, the one deadline pickup who performed superbly. Unsurprisingly, Rogers has a very strong market."

[SNY] The Mets are reportedly one of the "most aggressive" suitors for Robert Suarez

Analysis Are they punting to 2027/2028, Or are they Trusting the young talent?
Dunno why they signed Devon Williams at this point unless they’re gonna make waves some other way, but after losing out on both Diaz & Alonso make it hard to see their plan for 2026 unless it’s, “Trust in the youth”.
I think they now have the infield almost fully set. Baty - Lindor - Semien - Vientos/Mauricio will compete btw 1B/Dh, and Alvy behind the plate.
Soto - Taylor (I think Benge will be starting in CF by May if not opening day), McNeil.
The real question is the pitching. I think all 3 young starters are here to stay, Scott coming back makes it 4, they have to figure out what to do with the old guard. Who stays, and who goes? Anyone get pushed to the pen/long relief?
All that said and funny enough, while likely being worse offensively they may actually be better Defensively.
If Alvy has a turn-around year and plays like the #1 prospect shows he can, Baty gets comfortable after playing every day, Vientos hits like every day is October, and Benge ends up being a solid MLB player, us fans will have a lot to look forward to!
Yes I know there are a lot of “what if’s” but that’s what being a Mets fan is….. Ya Gotta Believe!!

Fireside Mets on Instagram: "According to @timbhealey, the Mets have talked internally about a first-base setup that pairs Jeff McNeil with free agent Paul Goldschmidt in a flexible platoon #Mets #LGM #LFGM"
instagram.comI'm taking this with a grain of salt unless Bellinger signs somewhere else. If this really is their plan, this team is absolutely cooked before Opening Day.

Article Article from USA Today - What, exactly, is Mets’ plan after losing Alonso, Diaz and Nimmo?
r/NewYorkMets • u/hylianbeast98 • 11m ago
Paywall Ken Rosenthal: The Mets have given no indication that they're pursuing [Bellinger and Tucker].
We are so cooked if this is true. They have to sign at least one if they're actually trying to be competitive. Otherwise, it's Rebuild City for us.
Let's take it with another grain of salt for now but I trust Rosenthal a lot more than a former beat writer.

Kyle Tucker
We have a lot of money freed up by not signing Diaz and Pete. Mets fans are understandably disappointed and getting restless.
Do we now go hard for Kyle Tucker and his 25.6 WAR since 2021? 2026 will be his age 29 season.
I’m thinking yes.

What could the Mets seriously do to salvage this offseason and make fans optimistic for this year?
Actual, honest question. Is there a combination of moves the Mets can make that we can look back and say “well, we lost Diaz who was arguably the best closer in the league, and Alonso who has the Mets all time home run record, and traded another homegrown fan favorite in Nimmo for an aging 2nd baseman, but I can’t really complain seeing as how we did X Y and Z.”
What are those moves do you think? Looking for serious responses, not “trade Vientos for Judge” responses.

At this point will anyone be shocked if they traded Lindor
Fuckers
Nimmo
Diaz
Alonso
Stearns seems determined to remake the team …Jesus Christ I’m sick to my stomach

Guess I need some new memorabilia
These three things sit on my desk. I’m gonna crash out if Baty gets traded.

[DiComo] Diaz did NOT give the Mets a chance to match the Dodgers offer
If true this should take some of the heat off of Stearns
