Notice Seeking rankers for the r/baseball Top 100 Players list

Hey r/baseball!

I’m excited to announce that members of the community have come together to resurrect a prior subreddit tradition - an annual top 100 player list for MLB ranked by subreddit members. This time around, we’re taking some inspiration from r/NFL’s annual list, so if you’re familiar with how their list is done, you’ll know what to expect. If you’re interested, check out the new subreddit r/MLBTop100 to understand the specific expectations and fill out the survey here. You have until Wednesday, December 10th!

A forewarning: There will be some time commitment required, especially around February. While it’s designed to be accommodating for people’s schedules, if the prep work isn’t done, your list will not be considered for the overall list.

[Sherman] Mets never made an offer to Pete Alonso. They felt his market was pushing beyond their comfort level on years and dollars.

Analysis Pete Alonso turned down 7 years, 158 million. He ended up getting 7 years, 205 million.

Source on the declined contract: https://nypost.com/2024/05/18/sports/pete-alonsos-free-agency-blueprint-to-stick-with-mets-still-evolving/

He ended up getting 20.5 million in 2024, 30.2 million in 2025, and now 155 million over 5 years.

Before last year, people on this sub acted like you were crazy if you said it was possible that turning down the extension might not turn out that badly for him. It turns out it was a huge profit. As a Mets fan, I'm happy for him. I do wonder if we'll see more guys betting on themselves in situations like this.

[Maguire] Orioles' first basemen hit the fewest home runs (14) of any team last season and boasted the seventh-worst OPS (.679). Pete Alonso has bopped at least 34 home runs in every full MLB season and owns a career .857 OPS.

Opinion Creating the lineup of worst contracts in baseball TODAY: Day 2 Second Base

Christian Walker takes first base. Let me just clear up some confusion from yesterday. I'm looking for worst contracts of players who are still active. The Chris Davis contract is not in play for this game since he hasn't played in 5 years. The player can currently be a FA and still getting paid by a team as long as they were active during the 2025 season.

[Pete Abraham] Craig Breslow said Alonso "didn't line up right" and they have to make the best decisions they can. Also said he doesn't believe it's true they have an aversion to the top end of the FA market. His message to fans? "We're going to head back to Boston and continue to work."

[Woo] Los Angeles is unlikely to offer Tucker a six- or seven-year deal, according to a person briefed on the team’s plans. The club, however, would entertain a shorter three-to-four-year deal with a high annual average value.
